Some Tips for your Ducane Grill

Every time you cook, clean the cooking grates, either right before or right after you cook. With the burners on, brushing the grates with a steel-bristle brush will get the old food off, and prepare you for a new batch to be cooked.

Every Month, when your grill is warm, but not hot, clean the inside of the lid with a wet soapy sponge or dishcloth. This helps keep the carbon buildup from accumulating inside the lid. Remove the grates and brush off the v shaped plate that helps protect the burners. This helps eliminate flare ups. Also clean the burners, but take care as to not damage the openings by brushing too hard. If there is a large amount of gunk inside the grill, use a plastic putty knife or the like and scrape the sides down to the funneled bottom tray. This directs cooking juices into the disposable catch pan, and empty that when full. Wash the inside of the grill with warm, soapy water to keep it clean, but try not to get the water inside the burner tubes.

Other Safety Tips:

Always read and understand your owner’s manual, and know how to operate your particular grill. Also, keep a fire extinguisher handy in the case of an accident. Never leave children, infants, or pets unattended near a hot or lit grill. Keep the grill away from anything that could potentially be flammable or combustible. Grills give off tons of heat, and having items close to or even touching a grill could cause them to catch fire. Never use a grill indoors or under a covered patio, or inside a garage. Keep the grill level. Use proper cooking utensils and tools. Plastic utensils and tools could melt, ruining your grill and the food you’re trying to cook. Remember that if you get all metal tools, handles may become hot if placed near the grill. Don’t wear loose fitting clothing, and keep hair away from any open flame or hot grill, as you could catch on fire. Always jeep the bottom tray and the catch tray clean and free of foreign contaminants. This will deter any unwanted animals, as well as help prevent flare ups. If a flare-up does occur, turn off all the burners, and move the food to another area of the grill. The flames should quickly subside, and once that happens, relight the burners. Never use water to extinguish flames on your gas grill. Never store propane tanks indoors. This includes sheds and garages. Always use quality Ducane Grill Parts when repairing or replacing broken or old parts on your Ducane grill.

Cooking Tips:

Always wash your hands thoroughly with hot, soapy water before preparing your meal, and after handling any meat, fish, or paltry. Do not defrost meat at room temps. Use different utensils for raw and cooked foods. Never re-use plates and utensils that are used with raw foods without washing them with hot, soapy water first. Never place raw meat in direct sunlight or near any heat source while resting. Always grill ground meats, such as hamburgers to an internal temperature of 160°F, 170°F for poultry (i.e., turkey burgers). If you use a sauce for grilling, divide the sauce into 2 parts, and use one for grilling and another for serving at the table. Never use the same sauce for grilling (raw meat) as you do for serving at the table (cooked meat). Trim the excess fat from your meat, and leave ¼ inch, which should be enough to flavor the meat. Having less fat on your cuts reduces the chances of a flare up, and makes the cleanup process a little easier. Putting a light coating of oil will help brown food evenly and keep it from sticking to the grates. Always put the oil on the food, not the grates themselves. Always keep the lid on your grill. Grills are designed to trap heat inside, and the heat inside the grill helps cook the food. Opening the grill makes the grill loose all its heat, therefore making cooking times longer. Using a thermometer takes all the guess work out of grilling. Checking your meats for internal temperatures is the best way to determine if the food is properly cooked. Allow more cooking time depending on the weather your cooking in. if it is cold, windy or you are at higher altitudes, more time may be needed. Likewise, in hot weather, less time may be needed, as your grill will already be somewhat warm. High temperatures on a new (or freshly cleaned) grill are normal, and after the first couple of uses, should return to normal.
